February 2026 is special because it was February 2016 when I first got a camera and decided to try and learn about birds by taking photos of them. A lot has happened in the decade since I started and it’s safe to say it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Here’s one of the first photos I took with that LUMIX camera, a male Anna’s hummingbird.

I didn’t have any ambitions about it; just thought it would be fun. It still is. I’m grateful that it’s such a big part of my life. I honestly don’t know what I would be doing with my time if I didn’t have photography. Here’s another photo of a male Anna’s hummingbird after a few years of practice - pretty big difference!

Tomorrow morning and Monday morning I’ll be able to go out and look for birds again!

@Jgbird wow, 10 years of patience & learning … time well spent! I’d be tempted to put up a small frame with both pics, side by side, to honour the journey 🙂

thanks for sharing your pics, always a highlight of my timeline! 🐦

@Jgbird Wow — you've come such a long way in those ten years; that must be cool to observe. I'm very glad you made that decision, both because of all the benefits it's given you and because it's led to the wondrous photos you now share with us.
