We didn't all catch this stuff when we were littlies, so we're not all protected!

@tess_machling also according to the Green Book, if you were born in the UK between 1970 and 1990 you should be eligible for at least one catch-up dose of MMR.

@tess_machling I have yet to meet anyone who's been "caught up opportunistically" or "offered MMR where feasible" but I should ask my GP about this because as a 41-year-old I suspect I'm not immune to mumps.

@russss i found my US records. I apparently got MMR in 84 and 94. I assume that's enough.

@Akki probably! For most people the measles immunity in particular is very durable.
The NHS hasn't digitised my vaccination records but the UK didn't start offering MMR until 1988 and availability was limited to start with, so I assume I've had two doses of MR and nothing against mumps.

@russss Wow. Tho I'm not surprised considering the UK dragging its feet on chicken pox vax (which I don't have and I'm not sure if I got it... it was a maybe mild case according to my mom, or a rash from unwashed t-shirt

I'm assuming I don't need the MMR -

@benjamineskola @Akki you might have got the MMR vaccine as your first dose, but the second dose given to schoolchildren in 1994 was only MR as there wasn't enough MMR available.
(The official 2-dose course was only introduced in 1996 - one dose is pretty good protection against measles but not quite good enough for elimination)

@tess_machling even people who did catch it are unlikely to have life-long immunity.
Anyone who isn't confident they've had an MMR booster in the last 10-15yrs should ask their GP if they can book oneOr pay if you're able.
Now is the time. However old, whether you have kids or not. Do it!

Measles is a very horrible disease. Not only does it kill and spread so easily, it also causes 'immune amnesia', meaning your immunity before you had it is gone, and it's no guarantee you'll still have antibodies (the way the immune system remembers threats) decades later.
Absolutely get a booster if you can! -

@russss @tess_machling I've had at least 4.
Two at school, I think, one at uni when people started getting mumps and one when we moved to the US for a while and they wouldn't accept my vaccine records so I got another top-up.Always good to ask.
