Am I correct that there is about, say, 4-8 times more #yeg than #yyc posts on the Fediverse?

@virtuous_sloth what's either of that mean, for us curious people over the pond?

@virtuous_sloth It’s true. Very few of us from #yyc are here. The #yycbike crowd were very slow to get off Xitter because our city government is still there. Lots set up accounts here but then ended up on bluesky. I’m dug in and staying here but using the stupid bridge to those people. I should post more too.

Airport identifiers used to refer to cities: yeg is Edmonton, yyc is Calgary about 300km south down the highway. As the two main urban centres in Alberta there’s always a little (mostly friendly) rivalry.

@zlatko @virtuous_sloth It became convention in the early days when Twitter was good and had a very small character limit to shorten Canadian cities to their airport codes. There was a big cohort of Westjet employees in the very beginning and I think they are to blame. #yyc is Calgary #yeg is Edmonton #yvr is Vancouver etc etc.
