Haven't had the best start to my #Fosdem travels.

Haven't had the best start to my #Fosdem travels. My uber took a silly route to my house so I ended up missing my train by about 30 seconds.
Turns out booking an advanced single and allowing 30 mins to get to the station isn't enough and I'm now a lovely £60 out of pocket to get the next train despite my original (first class) return being £80.
This is why I hate the trains in the UK.

I've made it to St Pancras and just waiting for the train now. First time using #Eurostar and so far so good!

@keefeglise Oh uber is getting all the hate and when I figure out how to complain at them I am going to suggest they pay me the £60 I'm out of pocket.
It's more the price of a train ticket on the day and the fact the gwr app and website didn't let me move my single to the next train despite being told it should be possible.
The other reality is the £60 is worth the peace of mind that my car is at home on the drive and is in range of my home cctv rather than in a train station car park for a week.

Or a reason to avoid Uber?
Good luck -
@tiggy Very true, I can't say as Uber is something I like to use and tend to avoid it where I can as it tends to always be a disaster.
I think my semi-angry original toot puts more blame on the trains than Uber which isn't actually how I see things, I'm just irritated that GWR also made things difficult and couldn't sort out a new ticket easily / refund / anything.
Once I get to my hotel I'll be contacting Uber to "Suggest" they owe me the £60 ticket after turning up very late compared to what I'd booked. I suspect I'll be told exactly where I can shove that but at least it'll make me feel a tiny bit better about paying £60 for a standard class ticket compared to the £78 I'd paid for two first class tickets originally.
