The biggest problem with the block button is that every time I use it, I'm reminded that there's no equivalent feature for in person interactions.

Coming to attention, clicking your heels together, performing a crisp about face and then marching away is pretty effective in person!

Sure, there are always restraining orders, and I suppose outright violence might be an acceptable last resort under some circumstances. But the block button has some very nice properties:
- It's very easy to use.
- It works instantly.
- You don't need to justify it or get anyone else's cooperation to enforce it.
- Using it doesn't cause problematic externalities; it affects only you and your feed -
