#Health is inherently political. Addressing the root causes, causes-of-causes, of illness and health calls for awareness and interventions on #political #determinants of planetary health. But how well are #physicians, medical #scientists, #clinical decision-makers prepared to respond to the pressing political determinants of health in the contemporary moment?

This article in #JAMA from 2023 is relevant today with authoritarian regimes and turns in global governance. 👇🏽

"We should prepare physicians to embrace care as a practice that extends well beyond the clinic and that necessarily hinges on power and policy—and thus on political organizing and struggle.

The practice of #medicine — let alone #publichealth — is intrinsically political. To deny this is itself a political act.

Because physicians typically have limited personal stakes in#labor #politics beyond our training years, many are more likely to accommodate exploitation than to protest it."
