Did a cheeky little skate of the full length of the Rideau Canal tonight. Figured I'd get that done before the weather warms up again, *just in case*...
I kind of forgot how not lit a lot of sections are, and boy, the parts past the Bank Street bridge (towards Dows Lake) had some interesting bumps and dents. Those can be scary when it's not light out!

@theastropath Last time I was there, I had just bought new skates, and of course all we can find ate hokey skate with short, rounded blades. Found it very hard to skate on the then soft and bumpy ice, bot noticed how the "lifeguards" had long bladed flat blades (as used by speed skaters) and were able to effortlessly and very smoothly skate. Wish I had had those.

@jfmezei Yeah, you see a decent number of people with speed skates. This year and last year they've really upped the quality of the ice (or the weather has better cooperated) and it's been *really* nice to skate on, even with just normal skates. I feel like they have to have actively started doing something differently that has resulted in ice that's so much more smooth.
