    Remember those new big houses I posted about, five days ago? The ones that cost $2 million and up? Some of them, at least, will have a lovely view of the parking lot at a small shopping, restaurant and office center.

    (Sadly, that means I'll see them every time I go to that center, which is also where our weekly farmers market is held, April-December.)

      @jeridansky But at least they're remedying the Bay Area's desperate shortage of $2 million homes! 😱

          @jeridansky

          Is that them, in that row? Wow, didn't know they were that far along.

          I'm sorry they're encroaching on your days, Jeri. At least (and it's a tiny "at least") the trees remain, if it was Florida they'd have clear-cut everything.

          Maybe we could move there, and be neighbors, if you, know, I found $2million.

            @moonrabbit Because developers make a lot more money selling huge homes. We do also have some nonprofits funding affordable housing.

              @czarbucks 😎

              That's them! Supposedly they have model homes open, so I'll wander over and take a look sometime.

              Not all houses here go for that much, of course, but prices are pretty outrageous β€” and we're cheap compared to the rest of the county.

              House sales in 2025:
              22 sales under $1 million
              79 sales $1 million-$1.5 million
              65 sales $1.5 million-$2 million
              52 sales $2 million and more

                @jeridansky

                Wow, that's wild. I know the region is extremely expensive, and I'm sure something new will fetch a large premium. But yowza.

                My sister enjoys sending me the real estate sales from around the District area which can be similarly unearthly. Naively I thought many homes would go empty or prices would come down when the new regime came in, and the long-term rational people left. I badly misjudged how many rich, connected, awful people there are.
