    New from me: FR#150 - On ICE, Verification, and Presence As Harm

    Bluesky has verified the account of ICE, which was a step too far for many in the fediverse, wanting to disconnect from the bridge between the networks

    The presence itself of ICE on Bluesky is a form of harm, and Bluesky is not well equipped to deal with this new challenge. Making things worse, their verification system is set up to delegate responsibility, but instead they made no use of it

        @fediversereport

        “Bluesky’s Community Guidelines lists the two major principles as ‘Safety First’ and ‘Respect Others’. It is somewhat unclear how the presence of a fascist police force that is actively working to instigate civil war aligns with the principles of safety and respect that Bluesky supposedly champions.”

          @fediversereport

          “The fundamental problem is that the way Bluesky is set up, both the company and the app, it is virtually impossible to do moderation that takes off-platform behaviour into account. But if you don’t take off-platform behaviour into account, your principles in the Community Guidelines of Safety and Respect lose their meaning.”

              @fediversereport @voxpopsicle It depends on your client, and what you want to see. On Metatext, a phone app, it just shows a link. On my Friendica instance it shows the entire article, because that's how I want it to look. It's up to you to choose an app and settings that work for you.

              Be aware that when long-form sites started joining the Fediverse, people who are used to only Twitter and Mastodon started criticising those sites, saying they should not post such long content. That started many heated arguments, and backlash from people like me who really do want to see long content. It's a sensitive topic.
