@Gina Ive always used friendica starting in 2018 and its always had that option. Im always shocked as to what mastodon doesn't have and why i never bothered with it. Mastodon has the sexiest marketing, friendica is truely the best with the most features but there is a learning curve due to so many features and can be a little sluggish without a good admin. Hubzilla is a close second with similar features, but both aren't as easy to self host as mastodon, so like peertube has a lot less instances to choose from -

The good news: ActivityPub can do it. So it's just a matter of Mastodon as an implementation.

@Gina Life is holistic though. Nobody is just tech. The same mind that is given to tech matters can also reflect on a widely eclectic range of subjects.

@Gina@fosstodon.org โI know you're on Mastodon, but can I recommend you check out Bonfire? Bonfire has MANY ways of controlling your posts. They call them boundaries. I haven't done too much with them yet, but I'm with you on the feeling of wanting to keep work and my personal life/social network life separate.

@Gina I realized one day that Mastodon is a quieter network. But it's still a social network, and the people who come here are the same ones who were on other social networks.
That helped me understand that what I don't like is people.
Either you say everything without fear, or you don't publish anything. I, for example, ended up putting cats here to avoid talking about certain things and to silence my harsh opinions. -

None of us is only our job or our hobbies. Our lives are full of different things, and we should be talking about them when we want to.Also, I'm sure that disliking the climate of central or northern Europe is not going to come as a major shock to anybody who's spent more than ten minutes there...

@Gina your boss notwithstanding, I think it's fine to talk about this on fosstodon. If people aren't interested in this important topic in your life, they could mute you for a little while. Personally, I don't mind hearing about the other things going on.

@graves I know, but there's something about blogposts that make it very unenjoyable for me to write them. I think it perfectionism, because it needs to somehow be a coherent story. A blogpost takes me on average 8 hrs to write. ๐ฅฒ
Mastodon posts are much easier.

@Gina if you hashtag it, people could use filters to filter it out if they don't want to hear it. Not quite what you want, but similar result in the end. And those of us who follow you NOT on a tech server wouldn't mind a bit on nontech news.
