Politicians and the media lie constantly about "millions of hardened, violent criminals invading the US" every year and when white Americans panic and empower the government to find them, these agencies spend all their time terrorizing law-abiding citizens instead.
Because there is no "invasion." Violent offenders were already being deported. Drugs are overwhelmingly already being caught at points of entry.

@gwynnion yup! it was really galvanized as a distinct fear with the crime bill, but it's been a racist and/or xenophobic drive since the country came into existence.
the foundational work has since been broadly discredited, which for something in the already non-science field of criminology is particularly damning.
