@mr_daemon this, but also: the number of encarbulator dot com websites I've seen that also do not tell you what it is/does on the main page, or even anywhere within a click or two, is too damn high!

Also please put this description on the website for your thing!
There are so many websites now that don't give any clue as to what they actually are or do. Adding a simple "About" link to a straightforward explanation of the thing would be brilliant (imagine you're writing the Wikipedia page for your thing rather than marketing hype).

Also don't say "Our new product [ThisThing] is available - it's like [ThatThing*]" - *I've never heard of ThatThing either, so saying it's "like" it is telling me nothing.

The only exception where that makes sense is if its sole purpose is to be like ThatThing. But then you phrase it differently.
"ThisThing, a free software alternative of the proprietary ThatThing, is now available!"

There is obviously a tradeoff between describing what it is, and what is new given the message length limit. But, hmm, reevaluating, the former is probably more important as absolutely nobody knows what is is anyway.

I often find myself saying "but what does it do?", when reading the README of projects hosted on Git**b. I generally then move on to some other task.@saxicola @mr_daemon Text files on github? I usually find myself saying "what was it that I have to do to be able to read this" and may either change "/blob/" to "/raw/" or just close the tab right away.
(Granted, github sometimes puts some of these as part of the directory list (... when it feels like serving the directory listing instead of JS), but that tends to be more an exception, unless all the README files you want to read are always the one it picks to show (I'm also thinking some codebases often have more than one relevant text file, if not even several READMEs).)
