If you’re indigenous, and a woman, cops don’t have to read license plates or know you’re not a criminal.

If you’re indigenous, and a woman, cops don’t have to read license plates or know you’re not a criminal. They just yank you out of your car at gunpoint and order you to the ground and handcuff you. Later, they say “Oops”. #BC #Police #Racism

@Scienceisnotopinions It’s been here from Day 1. It just gets worse and more common, but still, no one really believed it until cellphones with cameras began to prove it. Until you’ve seen it first hand, with your friends at risk, you have no idea how ugly and deep and dangerous it runs.

@CptSuperlative You’re in good company on that.

@Catawu @Scienceisnotopinions The difference between the US and CA isn't if it happens, it's how often/how fast.
This is common in BC/Alberta not so much far north. In the US, they won't do the gunpoint thing, they usually just shoot. The different is in the time to escalation, not whether the escalation happens or not.
So, if anyone ever does get the idea that CA is past its colonial tendencies, well, just look at this. Nobody is safe.

@Lstn2urmama Attacking non-whites, especially women, has been a sport amongst LEOs for generations. Badges for Bullies.

@onedawnconstant @Scienceisnotopinions They’re still doing “Starlight Tours” in AB and a few other provinces… sometimes taking away jackets or shoes or both from the men they are ‘releasing’ to walk home, miles from anywhere, in subzero temps, and then ruling their deaths to be their own misadventure.

@Catawu Trust me you need not be of any color to be taken advantage of by someone who has power gone to their heads .. even if you wear a uniform closely related to those who do the same job ...especially women ...
