With all the tiktok drama I have been telling people Mastodon is still here and kicking!!@OrionKidder @bitpickup @taylorlorenz additionally pressuring people to open their own instance from the start will inevitably lead to poorly moderated instances, or people giving up and leaving dead instances, which does not help anyone.

With all the tiktok drama I have been telling people Mastodon is still here and kicking!!@OrionKidder @bitpickup @taylorlorenz it is definitely NOT going to help if we put the onus on new users to run/moderate their own instances (even if we have turnkey solutions for this).
The people I talk to mostly complain that Mastodon seems "too complicated", and the idea that you are obligated to run your own instance is not going to help that.
Eventually some may recognize its in their interest to do so, but we need to LOWER the perceived barrier to entry, not raise it.
