    #OTD 8 January 1885, Baby Gertrud Victoria Fernanda died of pneumonia in the parish of Linköping, Östergötland, Sweden, at not quite 10 months old. She was the first child of my great-grandfather, Gustaf Emil Ferdinand Ekström. Almost exactly two years later, Gustaf buried his 23-year-old wife, Johanna Sofia Gustafsson, and their 8-week-old infant, Fritz Gustaf Gerhard. January seems to have been an unhealthy time for the young family. One child of the marriage survived.

    #OTD 6 January 1855, Christina nee Voßeler, 44, wife of Michael Voßeler, died in Tuningen, Württemberg. The couple had only one living child, a 14-year-old son named Johann Georg. Michael, 46, decided it was a good time to emigrate.

    Michael and his son sailed on the ship Oregon from Le Havre to New York, arriving in September, 1855. He had relatives in various places in the United States. Although I am not positive, I believe he settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. His son's fate is unknown. He was the older brother of my great-great-grandfather.

    @cliffwade Good morning, Cliff.

    My most important task for the day is calling the vet to get an appointment scheduled for Miss Melody. She is holding me down so that I can't get to the phone. 😹

    Have a good day!
