weβve been sold that lie by the same kind of predators selling AI.

I've been reading about what really helped people who had problems with "AI Psychosis" and one tip jumped out at me: -
absofuckinlutely DETEST autotranslation & localization.btw: when Bush & Cheney were getting ready to invade #Iraq, i started translating news from EU & Latin America that were not being reprinted or followed up by USA media.
BBC, El Pais, they would block americans from their sites. LβExpress never did; neither news sites from Canada, MΓ©xico, Brasil. so i was a one-woman RSS feed, circumventing geoblocks, quote posting (yes, they existed before twitter) what caught my eye or blogging full translations.
USA media has never been trustworthy.

absofuckinlutely DETEST autotranslation & localization.it was absolute hell when i was writing academic papers, 30 years ago, quoting sources in 2-3 different languages.
in proper academic writing, if you translate the text, you include the original in a footnote or vice-versa.
Microsoft Office, with their insistence that autocorrect can only happen one language at a time, has kneecapped plurilingual literacy.
we could be using language anchors to deal with dictionary switching, but nooo because illiterate techbros rule the world.

absofuckinlutely DETEST autotranslation & localization.FYI:
multilinguism β plurilinguism
@MastodonEngineering should be really proud of themselves because we have here the closest thing to a plurilingual platform.
multilingual platforms allow you to write in the language of your choice, usually with the app completely translated into the language of your choosing.
on plurilingual platforms, you can write in whatever language you choose and regardless of localization.
thatβs Mastodon today.

nope@Prometheus yikes!

absofuckinlutely DETEST autotranslation & localization.RE: https://mastodon.social/@firefoxwebdevs/115849251057488746
absofuckinlutely DETEST autotranslation & localization. this is why i use VPNs: to search the web beyond gringolandia; to read the web in other languages & not gringlish.
if you want to know how pigheaded a business "culture" is, look at how they force localization βand this includes search engines.
then thereβs the damage done to plurilinguism by Microsoft Office.
i hate the illiterate techbro, one language at a time, model of reading & writing.
develop for plurilinguism or GTFO

nope@ohmu i really loved going to the movies. it sucks.
-
nopeyes, the exterminators said it was a thing. some of their people had the same ability but they anyways bring in the beagles because theyβre cuter and are closer to the floor.
wrote down everywhere i smelled something weird & showed it to them. when they unleashed the beagle, she went to every spot i had marked.
walking down streets, i can smell infested buildings. itβs usually brownstones. the problem with movie theaters is that you canβt detect them until you are inside.
-
nope@minmi nope. actually love it. i donβt think they aren't related.
-
nope@suzannealdrich @ellie @chieroglyph that sounds amazing

nopeif you need to know why i have lost my love of movie theaters: i learned in the worst possible way i can smell bed bugs.
we had an infestation and i had to throw out all our beds, furniture upholstered with fabric, half of our winter clothes. sent my kids away during fumugation, while i washed everything we had & slept on the floor.
this happened after my husband left me. i have never recovered from the trauma nor financial ruin.
i have smelled bed bugs in every movie theater in my area.
