NOAA Study Finds Southern Plains 2020-2025 Drought Cost Ag $23 Billion
Drought in the Southern Plains during 2020-2025 caused an economic loss of more than $23 billion to agriculture in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Crop yields were low, and cattle herds were sold.

Drought expands in winter wheat acres
The December 30th U.S. Drought Monitor shows 70% of the country is experiencing abnormal dryness or drought, up 1% from the previous week, with 42.8% in D1 level drought or higher, up 1.4%.

The percent of normal precipitation for the U.S. in December was above normal in parts of the Pacific Northwest and West. Precipitation was 25% or less of normal in the Central and Southern Plains and the Southwest. Precip was below normal across much of the eastern half of the U.S.
Temperatures were much warmer than normal in the West and cooler in the Northeast.
