Personally (as an European) I haven't had much respect for the worth of the USA towards human rights and lawfullness for the past 25 years almost. Under the MAGA network state movement this is obviously worse, but it didn't start there, and it will not suddenly improve when MAGA goes. But within European governments there are still a lot of determined Atlanticists. Rubio is obviously trying to give them a hand to continue to stall Europe's self reliance movement.

What hurt them, was the fascist spectacle that they made of themselves for all the world to see.

At the same time they are still rushing to build mega concentration camps. And they talk nice because they preferably need the signature of some Democrats under the DHS appropriations, to make the medicine go down a little smoother.

But noone in the USA should relax. Yes, hopefully the people in MN can relax a little, but the job of getting the MAGAts out is not done.

And I will also say this, if your political "success" depends on lazy journalists grabbing your lazy messages from X and slap dashing lazy articles with X screenshots of what you "said", then you are not the politician you think you are.

And for the others, what you fear is not what actually will happen. Stepping away from X will not make you irrelevant. On the contrary, it will put you in the spotlight.

Some clear talking.

Speaking from the Netherlands and my own growing up and the education I got and the major programming I watched in movies and on TV, I can only say that I was continuously led to believe that the USA was the shining city on the hill of democracy and lliberty and nothing was better than US scientists and companies.

It's not hard to understand that a lot of people struggle with coming to terms with the reality of a declining and grasping empire.
