Mastodon could soon be getting the ability to backfill posts for profiles that an instance hasn't seen before. This will fix a major issue that has made the experience of using Mastodon confusing for new users especially on smaller instances and continues to be a major pain point for experienced users.

Hopefully this won't get delayed any longer than is needed because it's a huge limitation that doesn't need to exist.

@kaisla Discourse ja NodeBB siitä hyviä että tukevat ActivityPubia (tosin ensiksimainittuun tarvitaan pluginin asennus). Siten osallistuminen mahdolliista myös Mastodonista ja muusta fediversumista.

@zollak @everton137 to be fair I do believe this feature is opt-in so it requires the user to actively choose to hide their profile for those without an account.

It is also almost useless and potentially misleading to people who think it makes any significant difference because there are tons of web apps that show Bluesky profiles and posts without enforcing this.

@transicorn @mastodonmigration @jackie by the way that Series B is reported nowhere else other than that Pitchbook page as far as I know so I would say you should not treat it as confirmed. Had they really taken in $97 million in as investment back then they likely would have been shouting it from the rooftops instead of only a single website that tracks these things finding out.

Especially since it was reported that they were in talks back then but the close never was.

@jackie @mastodonmigration yeah that information is very, very outdated. It is purely based on what they say on their website FAQ which has not been updated in years despite the multiple funding rounds from venture capitalists they had afterwards which basically means they exchange equity in the company for investment.

It is very likely that not just Jay but also the team as a whole only own a minority of the company by this point.

There's just so much more when it comes to Elon's meddling even just with the UK and while I have no proof I think it's safe to assume some of it is more subtle (putting his thumb on the algorithmic scale at X, working behind the scenes) in his case also.

Latest news was that some former Trump advisor became president of Meta. I still think it is fairly obvious that Elon is much worse though.

@JimmyB @harri @noodlemaz Zuckerberg has certainly done a lot of bad through his companies but I don't think he is as extreme right-wing as Musk. You didn't see him campaign for the fascist in the White House, run an illegal operation aimed at purging federal institutions inside the administration, shape policies like offering asylum to white South Africans or actively propping up AfD in Germany etc.
