Today's small friend is this painted bunting, who should be vacationing in Florida, Cuba, or Mexico at this time of year. Instead, he decided to fly a thousand miles north to snowy Pittsburgh and hang out here for a month during the coldest part of our winter. 
I spent over 7 hours staking out a very kind stranger's house for a chance to see this bird and it was absolutely 1000% worth it. This is a new life-lister for me!
