X has refused to share data for DRI to investigate information manipulation and coordinated inauthentic behaviour during the Hungarian elections.
So we took them to court.
Article 40.12 of the DSA is clear: civil society researchers have the right to platform data to study systemic risks.
This ruling sets a precedent. It confirms that the right to data access under the DSA has real teeth. Courts in Germany can enforce it.
A big win for online transparency and platform accountability!
The Berlin Court of Appeals has ruled that X must give Democracy Reporting International access to the research data we need to study information manipulation during Hungary's April elections.

How much attention is generated simply because politicians use X as their main communication channel? How much journalism is dragged into following and amplifying what is said on a platform widely recognized as a disinformation and hate speech tool?
If politicians left X, how much of what remains would be newsworthy beyond the gossip sections?

We are planning to work closely with the Save Social campaign. And also to display the Executive on our platform.

Compare that to Sweden, 66%, the Netherlands, 63%, and the EU, 58%, that gap is striking.
Finland is often cited as a leader in digital literacy and counter-disinformation. It makes me curious how Finnish politicians assess X today, as a neutral platform, or as an active disinformation risk.
