@mattblaze In Canada we don't have government shutdowns. If the budget motion fails, that's a no-confidence vote and the Governor General (our head of state, a proxy for the King) dissolves parliament and calls an election. I mean, isn't that how it should work?!

@smattymatty @avilewis As an Ontarian who lived through an NDP government whose own supporters (teachers) quickly turned on them, I'll pass, but can agree the choices aren't great. IMHO, the ONDP of the 90s was an unmitigated disaster of incompetent ideologues, and they've never recovered from it, but once in a while they get some good federal leaders like Jack Layton, hopefully they get another.
