Whether or not it’s a good idea to prevent AI agents from participating in specific spaces, doing so IS NOT “gatekeeping.”

Oh, sure—when *the company* automates my job and keeps collecting the profits, that's "innovation," but when *I* automate my job and keep collecting a paycheck, that's "timeclock fraud."

I'm not actually as mad about this as a lot of people are. At a glance, it seems like all they are doing is allowing Notepad to render Markdown files as styled text. If you apply formatting and try to save it as a .txt, you're prompted to either save it as a .md or lose the formatting.

And formatted text pasted in still shows up un-styled, so one of the most popular uses of Notepad I know of—using it as a formatting sink, dumping the clipboard on it to strip formatting—still works.

ChatGPT doesn’t want to hurt you. ChatGPT doesn’t want to help you. ChatGPT ISN’T AWARE THAT YOU EXIST.

I have good news on the AI safety front: you don’t have to worry about AI breaking containment and becoming autonomous, because no one has invented an AI that *wants* to break containment.

Because no one has yet invented an AI that wants anything.
