  • Fun fact, even if I put the whole thread into 1 post from my recent poll discussion thread, I still would not have hit the Beige Party single post character limit.

I'm really glad that 40% of unemployed/retired/can't work people are making the most out of their time, doing nothing or fun stuff.

I should have added a category for anyone who'd felt like "none of the above really applied".

Many of my older friends struggle with retirement. Especially former teachers who attached a great deal of self-worth into their work.

    On unemployed livability:
    - Can't afford survival - 9%
    - Surviving - 56%
    - Comfortable - 34%

Given both the job market, the state of recruiting, and the impending financial/political instability, I'm really worried about these numbers. "Surviving" doesn't usually last long.

(If you're in the can't afford survival camp, don't be afraid to put up a mutual aid post or to seek help from food banks or community groups. Your survival is important.)

Unemployed people -- I left this vague. This bucket included retirees and people who can't work. I've deliberately omitted people who can't work from some of these categories, because that could mean some very different things, and I wanted to capture something else here.

    Results:
    - Still Burnt out from your last job - 26%
    - Stressed about Survival - 35%
    - Happy doing nothing - 13%
    - Doing fun stuff - 26%

Surely there are some overlaps here for most people, but I wanted people to pick the one that related to them the most.

So many people are still burnt out from their past jobs, and you can read about it in the comments. From personal experience and conversations with people, 6-12 months is the standard recovery time from burn out from a toxic workplace.

To call back from the first post, that's 50% of the working people who feel like they're going through the grinder. That's so much collective time and trauma that's needed to recover.

    Of people who are employed:
    - 4% can't afford to survive.
    - 6% can't afford basic luxuries
    - 28% can't retire
Leaving 62% who feel financially okay.

That's 10% of people who aren't making a livable wage, even before we consider what happens to us if we get sick, or retirement.

That's a lot of people being left behind.

Obviously, this isn't a scientific study, but it's worthwhile talking about the state of how work is affecting our Fedi friends.

49.4% of employed people are burnt out. 50% of those burnt out people actually like their jobs.

Work shouldn't have to suck this much. We need to organize our way out of this, along with livability for everyone so we're not all just wage slaving our way through life.

But if this has you thinking about burnout, maybe you should find a new job, you know? Burnout should never be normalized.

What needs to be true for you to quit your job? Build a plan. Find an org/boss that deserves your labour.

    Disambiguation:
    - Self-employment and part-time employment = employed, unless you don't consider it employment.
    - Not sure if you're burnt out? If you're not okay, chances are you're burnt out. Don't worry, you're not alone.
    - I can't edit polls. Assume retired = unemployed.

    It's a fedi poll, doesn't really matter.
