Hey, folks. -
Hey, folks.@ZenHeathen Thanks Zen, this is so cool of you. You know you've always got my love and support back.
Y'know, we've got a nice little community here where we can laugh and gripe and joke around and yes, even disagree from time to time, but like any family, always with respect and empathy. -
We're heading straight into World War 3.@stephanie I feel this, StΓ©phanie. You be you.

No words.@ZenHeathen Indeed! But it leaves the question of who people in Pennsylvania are suppose to vote for.

Boston Dynamics shows Atlas humanoid working at Georgia Hyundai plant@SteveThompson You gotta laugh at this race to develop humanoid robots - ours is not the most efficient form for most industrial tasks but owning slaves is just that much more fun when they look like humans, I guess.

Thanks @markgrieveson for leading me to the rabbit hole of reading through r/ndp.@dan613 @markgrieveson I mean I see your point, but there are many red lines along the way where fear of reprisal turns into self-censorship, where it becomes appeasement, becomes compliance, becomes collusion.
That's what they already achieved with the US media landscape. That's what the US is trying to achieve with Rodriguez.
What's even the point of sovereignty if you actively control yourself to align with them against your own best interests, without even being asked?
-
Thanks @markgrieveson for leading me to the rabbit hole of reading through r/ndp.@dan613 @markgrieveson It's not a pretty decision but I feel the rules based order and our independence beats out trade concerns in terms of priority.
And yes, I realize that puts me in the same mindset as Venezuela and Cuba, both of whom have endured many years of hardship at the hands of US embargoes in defense of their own national sovereignty.

Thanks @markgrieveson for leading me to the rabbit hole of reading through r/ndp.Thanks @markgrieveson for leading me to the rabbit hole of reading through r/ndp. I don't venture into Reddit very often these days.
I saw this to add to the collection of federal party reactions to the attack on Venezuela and hadn't seen anybody else post it here (maybe I missed it).

What is an economy?@anyGould For sure this, or any of the various indices that measure median incomes against the actual cost of living.

Good history reminder.@stephanie @irfan In my head there'd be military. Oh my yes, all over Alberta. But it would be painted as liberation. Again, just speculation on my part.
-
Good history reminder.@irfan @stephanie Just speculating, but I think the US would not run with the Venezuelan leadership decapitation approach with Canada.
They'd likely do something closer to what Russian did in Ukraine, annexing just the bits they want (Alberta), while citing broad regional support for the action (Smith).

What is an economy?@Colman You could argue that GDP is a measurement of wealth extraction from labour while saying nothing about how that wealth is distributed, no?
-
What is an economy? -
What is an economy?@crispius The stock market is particularly silly. All this supposed "generated wealth" that's nothing more than the net-zero of what was put into the pot by all the gamblers at the table. A suckers' game for all but the insiders.

What is an economy? What is an economy? To my mind, it's a generally agreed-upon social construct concerning the exchange of goods and services with a goal of providing to people the means to acquire what they need in order to survive.
As a social construct, this is not something that happens naturally. It requires constant monitoring and oversight. Regulation and taxation are tools that prevent labour exploitation and wealth inequity.
I just feel a lot of people of power have been losing sight of what this is all supposed to be about.
GDP is a meaningless metric if people can't afford food, a home or an education for their kids.
