The zergling and I sat down and watched an #anime recently called "My Roommate is a Cat" which we both found utterly delightful. I only really recently leaned in to the idea that I was #ActuallyAutistic so I'm kind of new at picking up on autistic-coded characters in shows but the main human character in this definitely had me saying a lot "Oh wow, I get this, I feel where you're coming from." The bit that I read online seems to agree that autistic-coding was the goal here.
It has some heavy emotional hits around navigating loss and dealing with pain and loneliness. It has a ton of warmth and happiness to it but if you're in a dark headspace, I could still see this being a bit triggery for some folks. Still, it's a really delightful show and the kiddo and I laughed a ton.
There's some mild cursing (damn, ass, crap). So that plus the subject matter, I probably wouldn't advise this for kids younger than 12, but if you have an especially mature younger kid then they might enjoy it too. Anyway yeah, figured I'd drop a recommendation since we enjoyed it so much. It's available on Crunchyroll.
