    LGBTQ+ people have contributed more than we'll ever be able to discover to our history.

    In February, here in the UK, we celebrate LGBTQ+ history month. It's a chance to learn more about the LGBTQ+ people who have shaped our society up until this point.

    As the political climate grows less accepting of diversity, it's more important than ever that we share these stories. If you have a story of LGBTQ+ history to share, please do so in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐Ÿงก

      @newsmast

      One of my favourite (ironically) stories of LGBTQ+ history is about Queen Anne's chambermaid, Abigail Hill.

      Whilst there's, obviously, no concrete evidence, Abigail was described as the 'Slut of State' (among other things) by a jealous ex-chambermaid of the Queen after she replaced her in the Queen's bed ๐Ÿ‘€

      This story inspired the 2018 film, The Favourite!

        @newsmast 18th century queer women artists were mostly hidden in society. One we know of is the English sculptor Anne Seymour Damer, who is celebrated as a witch in a painting hanging in the National Portrait Gallery. "The Three Witches from Macbeth" shows Anne along with her close friends Elizabeth Lamb and Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire (The Duchess). Very Portrait of a Lady on Fire! https://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/display/2011/the-three-witches-from-macbeth
