Every morning when I'm serenaded by a thousand screaming crows in the neighbourhood, I just remind myself of the "I just cawed to say I love you" meme πŸ™‚

In spite of everything, birds give me hope. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. And that also gives me hope.

@Jgbird They give you hope, why? Because they evolved from dinosaurs and they're still here, millions of years later?

@Jgbird Me too! I look out my window when the weight of the world is on me and I think "That chickadee doesn't know anything about geopolitics and it seems like it's doing okay!" and then it helps me put one foot in front of the other and get to work.

@Jgbird I love watching crows at my birdbath. They bring peanuts in shell and rinse them, presumably to remove salt. Only afterwords do they crack and eat them. Once I was near the birdbath when a crow appeared and waited on a nearby roof. While waiting, it cracked the shell and held the nut. When I walked away, it flew down and then rinsed it.

@the_spc @Jgbird We'd love that too, but given that Altheda almost got bitten by a bird, it's something we're a bit hesitant about. Though we did pet a cockatoo in 2024 who was being held by a handler, so petting birds are not out of the question. -- Altheda/lillianna

Someone nearby puts out crusts for the birds. Stale, so they're hard. The jays grab one, fly up to my balcony, and drop it in the water dish to soften. After a few minutes, they pull it out and eat it.
