            @FediTips also, if the thread's posts contain content warning, it can be practical, to put the numbering to the content warning for better visibility

              As Sam says, there's no official way for admins to change character limits on standard Mastodon. Those that do it have to edit several files and then re-do the edits every time they update the server software.
