The first documentary is about the people of Greenland and how they feel about the threat posed by Trump, the middle piece is about ICE and Minneapolis. The last piece is about what was happening in Iran during the last two weeks.
ZDF is German state television, and auslandsjournal is still one of the best political programmes made by critical minds. I hope you can watch it; sometimes it doesn't work when it's not YouTube.

Unfortunately the relative quiet of the last few days is over. ICE is all over South Minneapolis this morning. They just smashed an observer’s car window and kidnapped them right outside my corner coffee shop.
When will a judge finally have enough in order Bovino incarcerated for contempt ?

I beg you, wherever you are, to show some kind of solidarity with Minneapolis-St. Paul this Friday:
(1) SHUT DOWN NORMAL: Whatever your normal Friday is, find a way to pause it, interrupt it, halt it…even if only a little. Normal life cannot continue unabated while this is happening. It is intolerable, and we must not tolerate it.
(2) TAKE ACTION: Whether it is marching, yelling, organizing, forming that Signal group, taking that observer training, making connections with neighbors, just having a potluck…do •something•.

offspring will not be attending school, solidarity is a religion in this house and our faith demands it.
no shopping tomorrow. shopping will be finished today by all housemates. after folks get home, i'm taking one vehicle to gas up tonight so that housemate will not be gassing up tomorrow for their trek to join friends in action.
tomorrow is letters and calls. follow up email to my city council about what our local policy and protocols are if i.c.e. invades us (unlikely as we are tangent to wealthy folks including large immigrant communities with high price attorneys).
tomorrow is also a documentary day for my offspring. they did remind me that it would be foolish for the u.s. to invade canada as half of the geneva convention was based on canadian actions (now categorized as war crimes).

I just wanted to let you all know that the observer who was kidnapped yesterday (start of this thread) was released safely last night. (I say “kidnapped” not as an exaggeration, but as a fact: no part of that resembled a lawful arrest.) Minor scrapes, more determined than ever. Huge relief.
ICE apparently continues to believe that indefinite detention of observers is not something they can get away with yet. They are still generally releasing observers after many long hours but not days, generally with no proper booking and no charges.
Sadly, this is not the case for people they deem sufficiently brown-skinned to deport.

So I’m walking out the front door of Whipple, probably looking like an ice agent coming off shift, and pulling all of my random shit out of my bag/dropping it in the snowbank, etc.… And I can hear the protesters at the gate, taunting me… “oh did you drop your phone, you piece of shit?” “You’re TERRIBLE!” “Fucking Nazi!” And I was just loving it, actually. But when I got closer and used my big voice “You assholes are barking up the wrong tree…. These MF’ers just released me!” The crowd went absolutely crazy.❞

It's important to understand that the property arbitrarily seized by police, "civil asset forfeiture" adds up to more theft than all burglaries combined. The only heist bigger is wage theft.
You don't have to be convicted or even charged with anything. They'll just take your shit. Like in SF when the non-corporate nightclubs were getting harassed by cops using 40s-era obscenity laws to go after the queer-themed nights. They'd just take the DJ's whole rig. For example. Same goes for the cash under your mattress, when they toss a house "for drugs".
They do it because they know we're not exactly rolling in money (else they'd be taking their orders from us) and it's hard for us to replace that shit. For them it's profitable harassment. Best job ever for greedy bullies who love to make people cry.
Phones have been reappearing after being resold. You know, like how they auction off the cars they seize. Whether it's a personal deal under the table or a whole official process, same evil crap.
