    Getting a professional autism diagnosis will not make it more real. If you're autistic, someone else saying you are doesn't make you any more autistic. Being autistic makes you #ActuallyAutistic.

      @hmm_cook I am in two minds over this. On the one hand, I score 40+ on the Baron-Cohen test and my wife, who does have a professional diagnosis, is convinced I'm autistic. It sure does explain a lot!

      On the other hand, I'm not a physician. I wouldn't dream of diagnosing myself with, I dunno, diabetes or Crohn's or whatever; I'd always seek professional advice.

      It's just that there isn't any treatment -- at least, not that requires a diagnosis to access.

        @hmm_cook No, but it's like qualifications. For example; I'm an Osteopath and patients often don't want to hear a mechanical solution to their issue (like 'use a lumbar support so you sit more efficiently') but accept the same solution couched in medical language (Your ilio-lumbar and sacroiliac ligaments are inflamed because you slump when you sit).

          @hmm_cook
          I'm also extremely apprehensive of putting myself on a list of people that a fascist administration has talked about putting in camps.
