A couple people have asked how many cuts of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE there could possibly be, to which the answer is: too many

@prism @jalefkowit used to be that you could count on even numbered Windows versions and even numbered Star Trek movies

@jalefkowit I mean now that you’ve done the research it’s just rude not to reveal what the correct cut is.

@flyingsaceur @jalefkowit IMHO 2 and 6 were the best ones. I have a lot of respect for Nicolas Meyer, both for esentially bringing ST back from the dead after the first movie bombed, getting William Shatner to actually act, and for committing to the bit when <spoiler> and refusing to work on the third movie.

I also feel like his portrayal of the federation in an unappologetically neoconservative way felt a lot more realistic than TOS "we're exploring the galaxy to meet interesting people!" vibe which always felt disengenuous to me. And he was willing to lock horns with Roddenberry, who was wrong about a great many things. The guy had a vision and stuck to it. The rest kinda feel like the lunatics are running the assylum (generations aside which is also quite good)

@jalefkowit The correct answer is The Director's Edition. It's the only one actually finished.

@prism @jalefkowit The Wrath of Khan was unique in that it could stand on its own as a movie in a timeline where nothing else
Star Trek existed. 6 was taut and felt like a bridge from TOS into TNG with a much lighter touch than Generations

Plus I’m a sucker for turtlenecks and tunics

@linuxfiend @jalefkowit Sure, the twenty five minutes of flying through the ship's vagina was some of the most amazing cinima I've never seen (because I am blind)

@jalefkowit I remember that movie as “hey there’s that cool thing from Mr. Scott’s Guide to the Enterprise”
