ICE needs to be abolished, yes, and ideally its agents should be punished, but I haven't seen anyone bring up something even more important, which is the reparation of the harm done, with an emphasis on family reunification

@Voline Political violence doesn't magically become okay just because you're doing it
@krans
Oh, please go lick a boot you humorless Brit bastard. -
@Voline These bastards need to never see daylight again.

@julieofthespirits @Quasit there are hundreds if not thousands missing, and likely many of them are dead.

@julieofthespirits @Quasit my point is it's far more than 9 and it's already extremely bad (and will need hugely extensive reparation if it ever comes to that, though given US history this would be surprising), not just starting to happen, and not that 'people are dead already who cares' or what you thought I was saying?
I'm not American so there's not much fighting I can do from here, but I can try to be aware and address the biases like those being raised around people only mentioning recent white victims.

@noodlemaz @Quasit it's extremely irresponsible to call someone dead when they are disappeared, what you are doing is the opposite of helping

@julieofthespirits If you haven't heard anyone bring that up, it's because you aren't listening to enough of the people out here. We want our neighbors back, and we're working for it. Some people are being released and returned--not enough, but far more than there would be if that work wasn't being done.

@julieofthespirits @Quasit I didn't say they were all dead. Whatever.

@feznander I'm not in the US so I'm only referring to what I see on social media. I am glad people are saying it in IRL! I probably should have phrased it differently

@julieofthespirits If you're not hearing that being discussed enough, then find those who are working on it and boost them.

@noodlemaz @Quasit no, you need to apologize for calling people dead whose whereabouts we don't know. It's extremely irresponsible, and disrespectful to the families involved

@julieofthespirits @noodlemaz Excuse me, but I think you're being unnecessarily hostile to Marianne. I see no sign of the malice that you are ascribing to her.
Mastodon is more kind and tolerant than sites like Facebook and Reddit, in general. It's easy to bring old habits from those sites here. I myself make an extra effort to be understanding here, just because I'm used to fighting with people online on the old sites. At worst, I mute and move on.
I believe we're all on the same side in this conversation. Given the atrocities we're seeing every day, it's only natural to get angry. But we need to aim that anger at the fascists, not each other.
Just my two cents.
