    US is run by the wealthy. When they see sales falling ... they tell their lackeys (politicians) to change tack.

      @randahl They will understand a bit too late that the US depends also A LOT on Europe as a huge market. Too late guys, Europe has to move forwards and says 'bye 'to 'Dady'

        Europe is in an abusive relationship with US
        Theyโ€™ve been beating us up for a year and as we stand up against it, they assure it will not happen again
        If we accept them back in, the abuse will recommence

          @PeterP @randahl I fully agree. Let's be as independent as possible from them. Let's grow up.

            @randahl ๐Ÿ˜‚ Keep in mind Trump is not good at math. He's never noticed this. That said, I suspect many European politicians didn't either

              @randahl @gsymon that is not how this works. Trump destroys trust. European countries (which have their own oligarchy) will not easily make deals with the US, as these deals will not last very long. Trust has to be regained and that may take some time.

                  @randahl

                  Personally (as an European) I haven't had much respect for the worth of the USA towards human rights and lawfullness for the past 25 years almost. Under the MAGA network state movement this is obviously worse, but it didn't start there, and it will not suddenly improve when MAGA goes. But within European governments there are still a lot of determined Atlanticists. Rubio is obviously trying to give them a hand to continue to stall Europe's self reliance movement.

                      I think most Europeans disagree with this. Firstly, because of the brood called Republicans, we are not a part of each other and therefore do not belong together. Secondly, the Yanks will find out what it's like to stand alone if they set even one of their fat feet on Greenland.

                            Iโ€™d say opinions from a month ago might have something to do with the change of face:

                            โ€œThe Quinnipiac University poll, released Wednesday, found that 86 percent of respondents are against the U.S. using military force to acquire the Arctic island, which is part of NATO. Just 9 percent are in favor of such a move.โ€
