Freemen? I remember reading that Paul McCartney was made a Freeman of the City of Liverpool. One of the rights that apparently gave him was the right to carry his sword.

@anon_opin Alas, modern jousting isn't nearly as much fun to watch as I'd hoped. (I live in Maryland, USA, and our actual state sport is jousting, for some bizzare reason.)

All respect to the participants, who're very good. But it's more skilled horsemanship than the sort of metal bashing most people jump to. Honestly, the NFL is closer to what most people mean by "jousting."

@UkeleleEric I do love a good pantomime horse though. Can’t beat that. Reminds me of when I was young, watching a Monty Python sketch involving two pantomime horses, where they got on tandem bikes chasing each other around. Had us in fits, it was so ridiculous
