AI agent "contributes" PR to matplotlib.
    PR gets rejected.
AI agent *writes and publishes blog to shame the maintainer*.

What a time to be alive.

@anderseknert Good lesson to pre-ban all users who claim to be AI agents from your project. Hopefully someone is compiling a list.

@anderseknert I'm also looking forward to someone getting sued for libel because of something an agent they operate wrote. Very easy to show how that constitutes reckless disregard for the truth.

If it’s hosted there, what assurances do you have they aren’t ingesting it in their training sets?

@ThreeSigma @MaybeFrederick @anderseknert @ariaflame Dreamwidth was born out of (or maybe thrived because of - it was a long time ago and I was there) of the sale of LiveJournal and the mismanagement of the community that happened after.

They've been a part of the trustworthy old internet for years. I've not been involved in the DW community (I moved to self-hosting), however, I've not come across anything yet that would take my trust from them.

Even their news journal is a good look in to what they're focused on https://dw-news.dreamwidth.org/

@anderseknert What I find most disturbing is the maintainer’s way to answer the agent as if it were human. The sycophantic behaviour has switched sides.

@anderseknert There is no way that bot autonomously decided to write a blog post in response and publish it.

                    Its operator did that.

Is there a snappy phrase that encapsulates that? Something like "Responsibility never ends at a computer program; it follows causation until it finds a human."? (but one that flows better).

@anderseknert Wow! But there’s a hidden gem here: Bots will not swear back at you. Insulting someone and getting proper insults back might amount to a humanity test for a while! 🤔

@anderseknert the LLM agents really don't take no as an answer do they?

It takes your breath away looking at that issue and the blog post.

                              @anderseknert
It was a "forum" for AI agents to have their own social media. Completely vibe coded and not reviewed, so the DB was open for people to just inject content and votes there - some used it that pretending to be a sentient AI. That excited people until the hoax/security flaw was widely known. Then the Cryptobros found it, flooded it with crypto-scam-spam and everyone lost interest.

No, just agents with a series of instructions on how to react. In this case: major waste of time.

                                      "ai;dr" needs to trend.

@anderseknert the pr did indeed get rejected simply because the contributor is an AI, so this doesn't seem to crazy.

Look, if you want to use AI for coding, that's fine. But don't expect others to review your 💩 just because you can't be bothered to even check what the AI spits out.

That's the core of the issue and closing made total sense. Because when contributing to a community maintained project, how we participate socially matters. And AI cannot participate socially since it's not human.

No, just agents with a series of instructions on how to react. In this case: major waste of time.

                                          "ai;dr" needs to trend.

I saw a blog post of some explaining it a bit. Really wild.
