    We’re leaving X.

    Not for clicks.
    Not for politics.
For safety, democracy and basic responsibility.

We won’t stay on a platform that fails children, enables deepfake abuse and fuels disinformation.

But this is not an exit from the conversation.
It’s a move to better spaces.

    Come with us.

@greenpartyni Changing socials is like using web forms for people to email you. You choose the format and what you need and will accept from them.
Using Mastodon is just publishing your new email address.

      @greenpartyni
For parties/institutions/govt depts/corps/countries etc. that wish to develop their own Fedi servers, I would suggest using X/BlueSky/Facebook/Insta/Threads etc. simply to replicate the *original* posts/threads on these servers. So all followers on those platforms know where to go to interact seriously.

Why are you remaining on Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok? Those, too, are either in danger of falling to the same vices as Twitter, or are already on the way there. Wouldn't it be better to convince people to join free social networks instead?

@noodlemaz I’d also point out that the line from GPNI is effectively ‘X is now so bad we can’t stay’.

Really? It took the latest outrage? Really?

@JimmyB @noodlemaz When you've worked hard to build a large following, to communicate a positive message, it's hard to throw that away. Optimists hope things will improve, that fascists will disappear into insignificance, as they have done before.

@noodlemaz @woo yeah - I understand and agree. Man - I’ve been plenty slow enough in my time to make changes which were needed. The original point I made was about the framing. Like - this really is a step too far…. Anyway…

@zaire absolutely, but as a small political party we have to be where our voters are and potential voters. Sure, we’d like everyone to move to independent platforms like the Fediverse and dump US corporate media. But until that happens we’re stuck with an impossible choice - stay and inform & provoke for change, or leave and loose that important piece of influence. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️

But look at the response so far on that GPNI Twitter post - single-digit engagement metrics, and a couple of limp replies.

It's doing decent numbers here, though, and presumably on the other platforms too.

@JimmyB @harri @noodlemaz Zuckerberg has certainly done a lot of bad through his companies but I don't think he is as extreme right-wing as Musk. You didn't see him campaign for the fascist in the White House, run an illegal operation aimed at purging federal institutions inside the administration, shape policies like offering asylum to white South Africans or actively propping up AfD in Germany etc.

@dec23k @zaire It’s very clear to us that Musk throttles progressive voices like the Greens on XTwitter. The only way to try to counter that may be to pay for blue tick mark. And we would never do that!

I was involved in the campaign to repeal the 8th amendment for a few years.
When I wasn't collecting petition signatures at stalls or holding up one end of a banner or marching through Dublin or Belfast in the rain, a lot of campaigning was organised and done online, including on Twitter.
(planning was done in-person or on Signal, for opsec).

Some throttling of progressive voices was going on before 2022, but it got worse after the divorced dad walked into Twitter HQ with a kitchen sink.

@dec23k @JimmyB @harri @noodlemaz Right, he's certainly trying to work with the Trump regime and to get in his good graces. For that and a million other reasons I don't blame you if you want nothing to do with his stuff either.

Latest news was that some former Trump advisor became president of Meta. I still think it is fairly obvious that Elon is much worse though.

Yes, Space Karen is the worst. Always has been, at least as far back as the early days of paypal.

I was part of the late-2022 migration to Mastodon, from Twitter. It was an almost-perfect replacement, for me. But of course I was aware that it wasn't as ideal for other people. For a lot of them, bluesky was a better fit. But bluesky started out as a Twitter project (under Jack Dorsey), and it is very very centralised.

I think that the argument could be made that Meta is a lot worse than Musk. Their enthusiastic support for Brexit, the destruction of democracy globally, their strong participation in the success of such a wide range of fascist governments together with their ongoing platforming of environmental denial stands out for me. It's just a bit more subtle than Musk.

@JimmyB @dec23k @harri @noodlemaz I don't see it. Everything except the Brexit thing applies to Musk's X too and I don't even know what you mean by enthusiastic support there.

There's just so much more when it comes to Elon's meddling even just with the UK and while I have no proof I think it's safe to assume some of it is more subtle (putting his thumb on the algorithmic scale at X, working behind the scenes) in his case also.
