did my civic duty today:
went to a local donut shop
noticed they had a new ring camera up.
i ask the nice hispanic girl behind the counter "hey you know ice can see through that ring camera, right?"
she goes UHHHH NO WTF I HAVE ONE AT HOME
"tear it out of the wall. yank the power. ring gives ice free access to those"@Viss Each one, teach one

@Herndonite but the bigger question, is why are you defending flock and ice?
-
How was posting a discussion of the issue defending Flock and ICE?

How was posting a discussion of the issue defending Flock and ICE?
@Herndonite framing it as anything other than "ice can see through ring cameras" is softening it, and 100% of the time some rando responds to a thread with nothing but a link to a snopes link, it implies they are "calling bullshit".
so if i say "ring can see through ice cameras" and you reply with nothing but a link to a snopes article, it implies you are calling bullshit on my statement.
which in this context means you are defending ring and ice from me.

@Viss
Sorry. I don't know you and I hadn't heard of this connection between ICE and Ring, so I sought out more information.Your post didn't offer any information to back up the Ring/ICE connection ( though you may have in previous posts -- I should have checked) so I after reading the Snopes item which raised plenty of red flags, I linked to it in my reply.
Perhaps I should have added more context in doing that, so apologize if I offended you.

@Herndonite well today youve learned that when you post a link to a snopes article and no other explanation thats 'internet speak for':
'your statement is bullshit and snopes says youre wrong'

@Viss
Lesson learned.I will add, that I see lots of people posting claims on Mastodon which on reflex I agree with and am tempted to pass along. However, if it is something I have not seen other information on, I will check it out myself. That way I am not unintentionally spreading misinformation.
The right has made a meal out of posting lies and spreading unfounded fear knowing that their base will not verify their claims. I think those of us on the other side, should strive to be better.

@JessTheUnstill @Viss they control the software. Don't expect that cancelling a cloud subscription prevents them from accessing the device they built and control. It just prevents you from accessing it.

@zymurgic There seems to be a lot of people that think user interfaces run by a company are somehow objective and will do what they say they will.
– I pressed the button named ”Delete account”, so I’m safe.
– But did you check what the button was connected to?
-
@Viss @Herndonite i dont actually care if its being used by terrorists are using it specifcally to target immegrants or women than if their targeting any other set of people for any other reason, its still being used to help the state beat people up
