@hpod16 thank you, "Some types of EU legislation have direct effect while others do not." summarizes it quite well!

And yeah, haha "I always found it ironic that the type of law called a directive doesn’t have direct effect.", that sounds like an oxymoron to me 🀣

The oxymoron is probably my favourite poetic device… finding the poetry in the driest of subjects is a serious life skill. πŸ’œ

@hpod16 Would Mr Costa have known that his law suit over 20 EUR holds such sway over us? Mrs Defrenne was only told late in life that her name is synonymous with equal pay, apparently her labor union took care of everything -- Unlike Mrs Marckx who petitioned the ECtHR on behalf of her baby with the immortal words "Je suis un bΓ©bΓ© de dix mois et je porte plainte contra la Belgique" (equal treatment of kids in or out of marriage)

Costa was a lawyer and intended from the beginning for his case to be heard before the @Curia, so it's a very different case from Defrenne for sure! But considering that he lost the case I doubt he could have predicted the outcome or the ramifications thereof. πŸ™‚ @TimothyRoes @hpod16

All right EU law nerds! It’s time for another #EPSO quiz question, by popular demand, we are addressing EU case law.
The case Costa v ENEL (1964) Established which of the following principles?

                        #EPSOprep #EULaw #EU #EuropeanUnion

The correct answer here is Costa v ENEL (1964). It established the principle of supremacy (precedence) of EU law over conflicting national legislation.
