#RIP Robert Duvall.

#RIP Robert Duvall. He was a military brat, his father was a Navy rear admiral, and he served 2 years Army enlisted before going into acting. His original role in Apocalypse Now was "Colonel Carnage" but he used his experience to tone the character down, which some viewers might find surprising considering LTC Kilgore was still a bit extreme, but played authentically. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/robert-duvall-dead-godfather-apocalypse-now-1236506861/

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning... Smells like victory... Someday this war's gonna end." The amoral LTC Kilgore whose humanity, if he ever had it, was completely subsumed by the act of making war. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE03Lqm3nbI

@Nonya_Bidniss This reminds me that when I was in college (a long time ago) they showed Apocalypse Now in an auditorium one weekend. It was required for a modern history course, but any student could attend.
My roommate, whose older brother was a West Point grad, and I went. The audience was about a 60-40 split, men v. women when the movie started; when the lights came up after it ended we looked around and my roommate and I were the only women still in the auditorium.

@Karen5Lund Fascinating. So I guess that modern history course had like zero women taking it or they simply didn't care to complete the assignment
