The Ferguson's Gang was a kind of self-appointed preservation society from the mid 1900's in England. Their leader took the nom de guerre "Bill Stickers."

I had no idea about any of this until few moments ago. History is fun.

@pluralistic Long ago, I read a Bill Stickers poem, probably in some anthology, and could not find any reference to it in a search just now. From memory, the poem went something like this:

                "Bill Stickers Will Be Prosecuted"
                The evening papers run
But the thing I want to know
                Is what's Bill Stickers done?

Anyone recognize this or know the source?

(EDIT: found it; see later post in thread.)

@_the_cloud @pluralistic Another street sign I saw (in Melbourne Australia) many years ago:

                  "Blind Elderly People Crossing"

which seems like a horribly cruel thing to do.

@_the_cloud @pluralistic Isn't it usually "Bill Posters"? You might have more luck searching with that.

@aebrockwell @pluralistic I took this photo in Scotland. Apparently elderly people had become such a road hazard that the council felt that they needed to put up a sign.
