"It's just the flu."
STUDY of people 50+ hospitalized for severe acute respiratory infections finds that postdischarge mortality for patients with #COVID19 at 90 days after discharge was 49% higher than those with influenza A and 36% higher compared with patients with RSV. The risk ratios of readmission at 90 days were similarly higher for patients with COVID-19.

@augieray Plus there's nothing 'just' about the actual flu.

@ariaflame I trust you understand my goal isn't to dismiss the flu but to make sure people realize COVID is worse.
Most get the flu every 8-10 years and COVID every 2-3 years. If we get COVID 3x more often and each infection is 50% to 100% worse on our long-term health, that's a pretty profound difference that people need to understand. That would make COVID a 4.5 to 6x greater concern for health and wellness.

@augieray Wow. I don't think I've actually ever had either. It doesn't help of course that people refer to pretty much every cold or URI they catch as 'the flu'.

@augieray But yes, covid is worse, and since the flu can be very very bad, that is extremely bad.
