    @ColesStreetPothole I bet there's a hashtag. #MismatchedMasonry or #Brickstodon, with a lovely, peaceful, happy Mosstodonian-like community.

      @grahamperrin That seems specific, but I can't place the reference. I may have a vague memory of a nursery rhyme or skipping-rope song with a mulberry but otherwise am blank now.

      @CiaraNi I don't think there's any point of reference, I'm simply reminded of a very interesting mulberry tree that an old friend and I once discovered close to a similar wall.

      We had never seen a mulberry tree before. There were loads of birds in the area, the tree was laden with berries, plus masses of berries on the ground beneath it. We didn't know they were mulberries. All we knew was that the birds went nowhere near them, so we assumed that the berries were poisonous, and (me being me) eventually I decided to eat one.

      A passer-by (it might have been someone who was photographing bricks) saw us looking confused and approached to tell us the story of how the mulberry tree arrived; and why the birds simply knew not what to do with it.

        @michaelgemar @CiaraNi What if something or someone is bricked up in there, like a mini-Montresor? πŸ€”

        @ColesStreetPothole @michaelgemar A dark but intriguing thought - I can see a whole short story in this wall now.

                  The building is nice, but nothing compared to mysteriously mismatched masonry.

                      Everything is so awful. Here's a contrary brick I saw in a wall. It intrigued me and made me smile.

                      @CiaraNi Lovely photo, love the two specially-placed bricks.

                      I suspect there was a hole in the wall that needed patching and the only materials they could find were the bricks.

                      Thanks for sharing!

                            @juligudehus I was about to answer 'no, because asking a stranger if they were taking a photo for Mastodon would have made me seem weird' then realised that it probably wouldn't have seemed any weirder than me very publicly eyeballing a wall at close range and taking multiple pictures of one brick.

                            @CiaraNi Haha, yes! I always talk to people before thinking about what anyone might think – which is often fun and only sometimes people react negatively
