With zealots, sources of information are kept so narrowly siloed, that it takes a while for facts & reality to reach them.
Many saw themselves as "heroes & saviors" of white supremacy, & are only noticing now that even whites hate them.

This is a very important point.
These guys ingest a constant stream of Fox News and very radical podcasts. They are surrounded with messaging they are brave and virtuous and defending the country.
This is not to forgive them. They are responsible for their actions.
But, they're also targets of a concerted propaganda campaign to which they are very susceptible due to their backgrounds and racist beliefs.
Breaking these myths they have embraced is a key strategic goal.
