Kyle Rittenhouse walked up to police carrying an assault weapon during protests in Kenosha, then killed people, and Conservatives called him a hero.

@rpin42 You're not wrong, but we need to be clear that the answer is "non-violent protests." The response from police and officials is on them, not on the protesters.
Also, some of these books and studies on the effectiveness of nonviolence do NOT actually count property damage as violence, even though a lot of the people who DO consider that violence, like to cite such studies to bolster their arguments against, say, burning the 3rd Precinct. Which further complicates the debate.

@LukefromDC @augieray um going to quietly back out now. Big fan of non-violent direct-action and civil disobedience including general strikes, so I suppose if it were happening to me, I’d do my homework. It’s not me, yet, so I’ll focus on avoiding it. I feel for you in The States, it’s quite different where you are. Best of luck

It's something everyone is going to have to give some very serious thought. Goons may not be directly on your personal doorstep yet, but they're coming for EVERYONE.
The entire planet is under attack. The very air you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat, the value of your work and life and home no matter WHERE you live.

@violetmadder @rpin42 @augieray The only possible answer is "Arrgh-let them come!"

@LukefromDC @lawyersgunsnmoney @augieray @darwinwoodka Or the Civil War. We should've hanged Jefferson Davis.
@theorangetheme @lawyersgunsnmoney @augieray @darwinwoodka That would have been a great idea. Also handle the slaveowners the same way Haiti did

@starlily I'm not the one fighting, "Chief." In a world where people can pick fights with MAGAts and conservatives, it pisses me off when people want to pick fights with people with whom they agree because they think they got one point of their argument incorrect.
Seriously, train your fire on the people destroying democracy. Not the people you disagree with when they say 3.5% of the populace protesting can make a difference.
@augieray If you’ll consider a piece of unsolicited advice from a complete stranger, it does seem from here like you were gratuitously, needlessly antagonistic to people who share your values and goals, and disagree with you (if at all) only on relatively minor points.
When I’ve done stuff like this – and trust me, I have – on some level I knew I’d screwed up, and nothing made me feel better until I’d reached out to the folks I’d insulted and apologized to them.

Alex Pretti filmed officers during a protest, kept his handgun holstered, was wrestled to the ground, had his weapon taken away, and then was shot dead, and Conservatives are calling him a terrorist.
1/8
@augieray Nothing has changed. Conservatism in this country at least, has always been about enforcing law upon others while enjoying freedom from enforcement from those same laws.

@augieray I could have guessed Augie would block me. He seemed like the type that would brook no discussion on his pronouncements.
No loss for me. Like I said, I feel when you post in public, you should listen to arguments made in good faith. Otherwise you are just another talking point parrot.
I understand everyones pissed and raw right now, but fighting each other is what they want. Dont give in like Augie.
@starlily He's such an ass
