This is insane…
US Dollar share of global reserve currency has fallen to its lowest levels this century.
It’s literally unprecedented.
»U.S. President Donald Trump's policies around debt, trade, sanctions, security and the country's key institutions are likely to be critical in determining the extent of a shift away from the dollar, Wall Street bank Morgan Stanley has said.«

Germany is even thinking about getting its physical gold that is stored in the US out of there.
@TomSeppert@fosstodon.org
Best of luck with that as soon as Goldsharter hears about it.
Dump Gilts too.

Entirely rational since the end of the Gold Standard.
Most of the current / brewing wars are down to people wishing to trade other than in USD.
Finance relies on confidence and who can have any confidence in the USA any more?
Actually, WHY in HELL did anyone have any in the first place?
Noticeable that Trump has shut up about eCurrency recently. -

@FluentInFinance in this context, the US actions in Venezuela and Iran come into sharp focus. If the US were to have absolute control of Venezuela oil production, it can reestablish the US$ as de facto reserve currency. They don't need the oil domestically, but if they control the supply to the world, they can control the price, even selling below market value, effectively putting other oil producing nations out of business. Watch for the BRICS to quietly aid rebel groups in VZ

Ah, we're simply going to tell him: don't worry, we would never do this, because gold is best stored in the USA, and then just ship it anyway, 10 tons per week.

@FluentInFinance @ritawho the IMF has published currency reserve data including 3Q25, and the US dollar currency reserve percentage seems stable at about 57% https://data.imf.org/en/news/imf%20data%20brief%20december%2019
@RalphBassfeld intrresting contrast, hey @FluentInFinance where did your chart come from? One of them has to be wrong or they are looking at 2 entirely different things that are named similarly @ritawho

@FluentInFinance Not sure who made that graph, but Bloomberg itself has one at https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-01/dollar-slump-puts-share-of-foreign-reserves-at-30-year-low?embedded-checkout=true that shows it at 55%, not 40%. Still a remarkable drop, but not as dramatic as in your graph.
