#Alberta's separatist movement is 100% pushed by the american oil interests, if that wasn't obvious. (most) Albertans don't reap the rewards from AB crude, and it doesn't create that many jobs or sustain communities. There's obviously locals who would be proud to be independent, or think joining the US would benefit them, but they get egged on by the americans and their interests. The culture war stuff is just ammo to mobilize them towards that goal.

@caitp And the premier of Alberta sold her soul to the devil by facilitating this through changing the rules on how easy it is now to bring a referendum.
