The Gila National Forest, just across the border in New Mexico, is incredible.
The continental divide is cold this time of year, so you'll need winter gear.

@SeanPLynch ideally trying to split it into 3 days of driving so 5 hours from Tucson and then 5 hours from Houston. Was hoping to do White Sands but camping is closed there rn

White sands is best under a full moon. Save it for a future trip.
Look around the Lincoln National Forest and the valley of fires. It's cold even that far south. A lot of ski resorts in that area.

Check out Aguirre Springs Campground just north of Las Cruces.
