Anywhere in between, or half way?

The Gila National Forest, just across the border in New Mexico, is incredible.

The continental divide is cold this time of year, so you'll need winter gear.

@SeanPLynch ideally trying to split it into 3 days of driving so 5 hours from Tucson and then 5 hours from Houston. Was hoping to do White Sands but camping is closed there rn 😞

White sands is best under a full moon. Save it for a future trip.

Look around the Lincoln National Forest and the valley of fires. It's cold even that far south. A lot of ski resorts in that area.

Check out Aguirre Springs Campground just north of Las Cruces.
