PS. With all the Discord stuff, in case you wonder why you never see me promoting Matrix, it’s not because it’s a usability nightmare (which it is) but because it’s made by the kind of people who’d be happy to call ICE a customer.@forteller I don’t necessarily agree completely with @aral, but I think Element should be really clear here. They posted a non-denial denial while referring to a policy that suggests ICE would be a welcome customer. I don’t have any other information on who they’re actually selling to, I’m only judging their behaviour.

Trump has so thoroughly brought Big Journalism to heel that NBC makes a transparently hollow denial that it covered up the Olympic audience's booing of JD Vance.@dangillmor They must have bought the Eurovision anti-booing technology.

did my civic duty today:went to a local donut shopnoticed they had a new ring camera up@zymurgic There seems to be a lot of people that think user interfaces run by a company are somehow objective and will do what they say they will.
– I pressed the button named ”Delete account”, so I’m safe.
– But did you check what the button was connected to?

It will never stop being funny to me that the whole "you can't trust Wikipedia because anyone can edit it" scare happened and now Wikipedia is the only trustworthy website because it turns out profit motive is the reason things turn to shit.@haunted_refrigerator @AlSweigart The reason Wikipedia should not be cited is because it’s an encyclopedia, not because it’s not accurate.

@thedarktangent I think I’d sleep with more peace of mind that random scripts downloaded from GitHub are not touching my contacts than worrying one of my contacts might be associated with Epstein.@fnwbr @kodamachameleon @thedarktangent And anyone capable of reading the code knows that it sends the contacts to a web service.
And what happens with the data there? It doesn’t say in the script, so nice try.
There is probably a term for this, when someone tries to hide a fact by pointing to it and hoping no one will look.

Thank you to Steve Bannon for giving away the game:@JugglingWithEggs ”would be a declaration of civil war”
What do you think the US is having now, then? How many times can you move the red line?

“Novice workers who rely heavily on AI to complete unfamiliar tasks may compromise their own skill acquisition.@GossiTheDog And by ”watched”, I mean ”played them at 10x with the sound off while scrolling on my phone”.

“Novice workers who rely heavily on AI to complete unfamiliar tasks may compromise their own skill acquisition.@GossiTheDog I watched a thousand machine generated piano concerts, and I’m still not better at playing the piano. Strange.
-
Must see from @euronews@fosdembsd Why would you say that is strange? This is exactly what should happen, organisations that want control over their communications have their own instance, but are not in control of the network.

UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT.@Fonant @cstross @david_chisnall One should design a society so that there is as little as possible for the people in power to grab on to once it becomes a police state. A legislation process that only considers fair weather is really bad, and the weather already seems kind of cloudy.
-
UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT.@oschonrock @cstross @Fonant @PeterSommerlad One reason for a Twitter ban is that it would then be much more difficult for people to excuse their presence there. And for people not wanting to be there but feel pressured to, to get an excuse to leave.

"Donald Trump now genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him.@NatureMC And they have also been subjected to contemporary colonial crimes by Denmark.
It’s perfectly possible to keep two thoughts in one’s head at the same time: it would be an unfathomable crime for the US to invade Greenland, and Denmark is a colonial power who should not exercise power over Greenland.

"Donald Trump now genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him.@Firlefanz @anneapplebaum Of course it’s violently repulsive to even think of the US invading Greenland, so I get that part, but ”Danish” is not a relevant description of the typical Greenlander.

Zohran is expanding the number of public toilets in NYC and improving how the existing ones are cleaned and maintained.@JonnyT I’ve never had a bidet toilet at home in Japan, only the standard heated seat.
